RE: FACTORY 600 gaining steam

Not to mention some of the racers are lucky to have their sleds ready by eagle?! Used to be racers put everything on hold and got their sleds done and maybe a little test time by Ironwood in early December. David

RE: wc time trials

It would be nice to see Dustin win however Eagle River does not favor the heavier driver? With the slow exit speed from corner 2 and the drag from the banking it may not be his best track? The one thing he has going for him he is on a 440! David

RE: Outlaw 600 - Progress Thread - HRE

It would be a shame not to be able to resharpen the studs. When we were sponsored by Kalamazoo Engeneering i always ran carbide studs and sharpen by running the drill backwards and a green wheel. The downside to this is then the studs need to be shimed to max length which can be time consuming.? David

RE: Beausejour track dimensions ?

Years ago when I was involved in racing, in the rule book they had the dimensions of a 1/2 mile track in the back of the rule book. I think the straight were 600' and corners were 200' radius. David

RE: Twin track clutching help

Sounds like you don't have the rotax pipes ( high RPM). The gearing I liked a 19- 46/ or 47 gear. Clutching there are 100 different combinations but i liked a TRA green clutch spring, 50/40 cam with a strong spring in torque converter like a Arctic yellow or ski- doo beige at 26/28 lbs. Hope this helps. David

RE: Curtis update 8/12/11

To the Boivin family, I thought I would share my brothers story with you. My brother Tom was involved in a car accident a few years back where he broke every bone in his face. They put 8 plates and 50 screws and a tracheotomy to put him back together. He was in the hospital for awhile but when he was released he stayed with me for a month and moved home to be on his own. My brother suffered no brain damage from his accident. He was in a induced coma for around a week. I hope your family get's through these times and Curtis makes a full recovery! David

RE: Snow-dust

Another precaution other than the lights mentioned in the previous posts is marking the track with really bright signage! The inside bank needs to be marked really well along with outside bank. The hay bales on the outside of the track actually are pretty good visibility as long as we keep them free from snow through out the weekend. The inside bank we could make 2'by2' signs stuck into the snowbank. I realize we don't always have a inside bank to put the stakes into so other options need to be at the ready in that case. I also think it's a good idea when building a track to have the loader drop some snow in corner 1 and 3 for the flagman to have some protection. I know if i was a corner flagman I would have a hole to dive into just in case. When I was a starter I always had set a penetrator studs under my boot, these were clip on style that ice fisherman use. These are just some ideas I have about track safety. David

RE: Snow-dust

Yes eagle river used to use saw dust, it just introduced a bunch of dirt to the ice! The carbides and carbide studs were trash along with my handling after a few laps. David

RE: Outlaw 600 - Breakdown Procedure

Wayne as far as I am concerned the race director or the Starter flagman should review their location. I used to like to see a snow berm and a few hay bales for cover. Very good point I know it's a dangerous place to be, especially in corner one! David

RE: The color orange

Ok I can see that makes sence. Not sure how the vintage moto- ski guys are going to feel about it? Ian I am not sure about Yellow and Green color your thinking about? We had a racer ( Dan Brown) racing Formula 1 with those colors he was involved in a accident in Eganville and was paralyze. Might not be lucky colors? David

RE: Sprint 600

Bob, John and Jerry are offering you good advice. It's not very exciting racing with a very few sleds in your class. As a racer you want to feel like your racing against a bunch of guys that can win on the weekend. When the numbers in your class are 3,4,5 is hard to get very excited as a racer or fan. On the other hand when their 15 sleds or more now your talking. The main reason I don't drive 500 miles on a weekend to have fun at the races is because of the low numbers in the classes. David
