need specs on head and cylinder torque for a 2001 Polaris xcf 440 fan.
and what would cause both pistons to eat or melt away on the exhaust side someone said the engine wasn't warmed up before ridding.

Generally, your base torque will be around 20lb/ft and heads are 25lb/ft. Best to get that info from Poo. You might be running too lean on the main jet if your melting pistons.

Oil would be cheaper if the greenies stopped using it.

What main jets are you running?

As far as the torque specs, I can post those when I get home tonight from work.

320 and 310 just had carbs rebuilt. now for the trick question when they give jet sizes which jet is smaller pto or mag .this sled is fan cooled. what about running a cooler plug br9s are in it now. the tops of the pistons were black with carbon I guess. they would mean rich right?

The larger jet will go to the PTO side, or the side farthest from the fan. In the manual for my Pro-X the jetting is what they recommend for 0-2000 feet elevation and +10-+30 deg.. So you should be in the ball park. When it melted down, was it REAL cold? What about deep wet snow? What do the plugs say? If they read right, then maybe you got a bad batch of gas, the carbs could have been a bit gummed up, coupled with low temps = bye-bye pistons. BTW, you AREN'T running ethanol blended fuel are you? I'd just stick with the 9's for your plugs....

As for the torque specs. Cylinder base nut is 24-28lbs and cylinder head is 18-19 lbs.

Now my turn for questions... Since so few people have the Fuji fan motor, it is hard to find someone to ask this... At low rpm (idle-4000) prior to clutch engagement, is your engine real slow to rev? After rpms come up and the clutch is engaged, it is real quick to rev? After rpms come up and the clutch is in, (mine) it is quite a quick sled. I have no derivability issues other than the slow revving at low speeds.

i bought this sled on e-bay three years ago, and it never ran good from day one. I changed jetts down from330 both sides, dropped the clip because polaris had a tech update. still no luck added holzman tempaflow ,no luck finally checked compression 75 pounds. now that i have sent clyinders out to get replated nicasil and new pistons from polaris i'll let you know. wiesco didn't have pistons for this motor so must be a dud. she better run like a rapped ape or she's out the door. how cold is real cold.

When you get er back to gether, she should run pretty darn good. For the carbs, if the are the VM-34's try 3/4 turn on the air screw, third clip for the needle, 320/310 jets, #40 pilots. That is my set up per the book (subject to change) That will be close. Idle should be about 1200-1500rpm. My compression is 125psi. The 320/310 jets are good down to about 10*. After that step them up to 330/320. On my engine the plugs burn LIGHT tan/ almost white at 320/310 on a cold day (about 10*) Give those specs a try. Change as needed. Run good gas (91) w/o ethanol!

I dont think the motor is a dud. Mine runs like mad! It even has the guts to pull the skis for about 50'.

thanks for rebuilding my confidence in this sled, and all the specs. I would've liked to help you out on your question but We'll have to wait till it snows. This is my sons sled, and he aint to happy with it. We've put more plugs in this thing and pushed it up hills to last me a life time.

No problem, just remember that the specs for the XCF could be a little different than the ones for my Pro-X. These will be close seing as how the engine is pretty much the same.

Good luck and keep me posted on how she runs.
