Derby Track Changes

Postby 1987wc » April 18th, 2017, 11:07 am

I'm putting this out here on this forum as it seems like a good place to reach most of the racers. One important change is the Derby will again be a three day show not four as in the past. This will cut a day out of every ones travel as well as a day of lodging. There will be practice Friday up until 1:00 pm then at 2:00 pm we will begin racing including time trials for the classes that need to time trial. Friday night thunder will run the same as it has been. Saturday will be qualifying all day and Sunday features for all classes with the championship at 3:00 pm. One other change is All drivers will once again receive a free pit pass. We will keep you updated through the summer.

Thanks Chuck!
Curbing some expenses is helpful to all. And putting more into the show for three days will make a lot of fans happy.
Progressive move on the Derbies part.

Good moves Chuck ,that's the main reason we did not show up at vintage weekend this year, its to hard to get that much time off. I would think the modern drivers will be happy about this.

Good Idea Chuck
And beings we are talking about changes here, if for some reason you ever decided to have the vintage and the WC on the same weekend, Snow Cross the first weekend, all ovals the second "Which I personally would love to see" is the infield big enough that you could build the kids oval down there and have enough room for there trailers in there as well ??? My thought is they could be racing while the big track is being groomed those little modded kitty Kats and 120's are pretty fun to watch and if they were to get more exposure like that maybe more of them would start racing and stay with it.
Ok I'm done rambling see you in January

That would be cool to give them little tikes the exposure, but keep the haulers out of the infield. This would be a poor visibility issue for spectators watching the big oval track races on the backstretch. Just my .02 worth.

We raced at Sauk Center with the kids on the inside of the track while a vintage group raced on the track. It is dangerous. So all the kids, machines, etc would need to come out of the infield while the track was hot. It is a great idea, it would give the kids a lot of exposure but I don't see how to make that work. When you are running champs and F1s you need to be close to your trailer so you can make changes between races.
